I finally managed to get some alone time with Oskar later that night after everyone else had gone to bed. He'd been taken hostage by first one omega then another all fucking day, as they welcomed him to the pack and helped him get settled. I mean, it was nice of them and I was glad to see him fitting in. I just wanted some time with my man.

We were alone in the kitchen, sitting side by side at the counter drinking my special hot chocolate. “This was a good treat, Maxx. Thank you,” Oskar said gruffly as he pushed his empty cup to the side. “I found out this morning that I am not to drink coffee anymore. It is bad for the cub. I can drink the decaf kind, but what is the purpose in that?”

I glanced over at him, amused by his obvious resentment over the coffee issue. “Do you like tea? Can you have that?”

He groaned and dropped his head dramatically to the counter. His voice was muffled as he spoke against the tile. “Yes, I can drink tea. But I hate tea. Literally hate it.”

I reached over and ran my hand up the length of his spine, bringing it to a rest at the nape of his neck. I gently squeezed it, pulsing my alpha pheromones into the air to calm and relax him.

Oskar turned his head to face me, his lips twisted into a half smile. “That was nice, Maxx. Thank you.”

I gave his neck one last squeeze, and removed my hand. “I didn't want to push you, Oskar. But, I have to ask. Have you given any thought as to what you want yet?”

Oskar sat up, turning on his stool to face me. I turned too, stopping when our knees touched. He reached out to clasp hands with me as he spoke. “Maxx. I am not certain how I'll feel a week from now, but especially not a month or five months from now. I'd hate to make decisions today that I am not ready to make.”

I nodded, completely understanding what he meant. My eyes searched his as I swallowed uncomfortably and asked one of the questions that I wasn't ready to have answered: “Do you just need time to think of your options, or do you want time away from me?”

Maxx gripped my hands tighter, his eyes pinning me into place with a penetrating gaze. “When I said that I was not looking for an alpha right now, I was not expecting to meet you. That does not mean that I am ready to move in together and have you become the boss of me. It just means that I am willing to slowly move forward for now.”

I nodded. “And your job? Will you be starting it in the morning?”

His head tilted slightly as he studied me. “Would it be a problem for you if I did? You're already not getting a tiny, cutesy omega. Would it be bad if I also wanted to work instead of doing omega household things all day?”

I shook my head.
